5 am, somewhere in the sky from Dublin to Athens.
Two people behind me were giggling while reading Trump propaganda, “Trump could move mountains” The older woman giggled. It’s weird to see a dictatorship form in my lifetime. The once “greatest country,” “land of the free” - which, of course, was all propaganda, but as a child, I fell for it. How could you not with all the shining lights of Hollywood being shoved in your face? Then I think about how Germany’s film industry was booming and regarded as the best just before the Nazi regime. Lots of similarities these days between Nazi Germany and current America.
Walking by the Quay on our way to a painting exhibition, about two hours late, as night had already settled and the street lights had turned on. Talking about Trump while (redacted) does a Trump impression. Trump impressions always remind me of (redacted 2) before he fell into a deep depression. I wonder how he’s doing. I hope he’s well now. (redacted) continuing their trump impression on our walk says, “I sign the paper, I say no fighting, and they stop fighting. 3000 3000-year war done because I said no more fighting” - and it dawned on me that is how Trump’s mind really seems to work.
3 am on the bus to the airport.
Searching the web for journalism courses, which countries are best to study in, and which countries are best to be a journalist. America. America. America came up every time, and I couldn’t help but giggle to myself. America. Where the freedom of speech is limited and controlled an insane amount, where journalists are wrongfully arrested and is currently the biggest propaganda machine in the world. Joseph Goebbels would be proud of America.
One suggested search was “what is the number one country”, to which the answer was America. The same America that fails in education and healthcare. An education system where the best-case scenario is you come out dumber and learn not to question, and the worst-case scenario is you don’t come out at all. A healthcare system designed to kill, especially the poor.
Sure, the number one country in the world.
