dead devotion

As my bones meet the dirt and my body is returned to earth. Buried in a wooden coffin, engraved with love and patience. Coffin, which will rot and decay, fallen pieces into the bones that were once mine. Bones that have lost all use and memory. Bugs, mice and worms creep into the rotten coffin. For starters, they tease the wood, nibbling on it. Too plain. Too rotten. They move to the bones which used to be mine, expecting something sweeter. Biting into the bones, trying to chew on them. They aren’t as strong as they used to be. I should’ve drunk more milk while alive. Dissatisfied.

Moving into the centre of the body, staring at the heart that hasn’t bled or beat in years. Rotten looking, low expectations. They begin to bite at my heart. Ah. There it is. Flavour. After all these years, they bite into my heart and can taste what once kept it beating..

My love for you. The love that gave me strength. The love that kept me going. The love tastes delicious. Bug, mice and worms fight to the death for a taste of our love. Mice won in the end. Dead bugs and worms joining me for eternity.
